A River Runs Through
The Rivanna River plays an essential role in Albemarle County's history, ecology and culture. It provides the water we drink, habitat for wildlife, and respite and recreation opportunities for locals and visitors alike.
There are a number of long-range plans that are focused in and around the river environs, including
-
the Albemarle County Blueway, which will ultimately stretch for 17 miles from below the Rivanna Reservoir to Buck Island;
-
activity areas in our regional park, Darden Towe; and
-
expansion of our trails network by creating a multi-use trail from Brook Hill in the north all the way to Glenmore in the east and extending for 12 miles.
The Foundation has compiled a series of projects with the Rivanna River as a backdrop. Each of the project's individual descriptions are included below, along with estimated costs. Click on each description to see the project details.
